Rural Transit
In rural areas, dial-a-ride and fixed route transit service allow non-drivers access to health services, shopping, and employment.
Many of the larger rural transit agencies now have ITS technologies operational.
While ITS deployments help transit agencies operate efficiently, they require upfront capital expenditures and ongoing operations and maintenance budgets, therefore it is critical that the benefits outweigh the costs.
Athey Creek Consultants has experience working with rural transit agencies to understand the benefits of ITS on the transit system. In the Kansas Rural ITS Evaluation Project, Athey Creek conducted an assessment of the actual benefits of ITS deployments.
