IS A VSL WARRANTED?

For each ITS device, the warrant development process has first identified and researched some of the most common purposes (or uses) of each device. A separate set of ITS Warrants are presented for each individual purpose defined for each device. By organizing the warrants by purpose, agencies considering the deployment of ITS devices can evaluate their intended use of the device (or multiple uses) against the warrants as one step in the process of determining whether or not to deploy the device.

For VSL (Variable Speed Limit) devices, four (4) warrants have been identified to capture the most common uses of this device. While there are other purposes and uses for VSL, the warrants developed to date have focused on the following four. If you have suggestions of additional VSL Warrants please let us know click here.

To determine if a VSL is warranted, please select a warrant below most similar to your application.
