Alaska Next Generation 511
Athey Creek Consultants was contracted by the Alaska DOT to support efforts to transition from the current statewide Traveler Information System to a Next Generation Traveler Information System. In this role, Athey Creek staff followed a detailed Systems Engineering Process to:
- Document the needs of users and travelers;
- Develop a Concept of Operations for the Next Generation System (event reporting tool, 511 Phone System, 511 Internet Site, and additional dissemination devices);
- Develop a governing and business model for the Next Generation entry tool and traveler information dissemination systems;
- Develop detailed requirements for systems to be procured; and
- Support Alaska DOT in preparing procurement documents, and negotiations with vendors.
Phase 1 of this project completed in December 2008. Athey Creek was hired by AKDOT to perform a second stage and provide technical support through system construction.
